Villagers carrying a staue of the Black Madonna through Fordlandia during an annual festival celebration. This village was one of a number on the banks of the Tapajos river which saw investment in services such as electricity and running water. Access to the village which lay in the heart of the Amazonian rainforest basin was still by unpaved dirt roads from Highway BR163.
