A statue of the Virgin Mary at prayer with an illuminated halo on display in a Catholic church in Seggiano, south of Siena. The town of Seggiano was founded in medieval times and has been inhabited continuously ever since. The region was famous for its chestnuts and olives and the olive harvesting season which took place over a two-month period leading up to Christmas was a communal event.
