In 2021, I recommenced work on Catching the Tide. By that time, fishing for wild Atlantic salmon using traditional interceptory nets had been outlawed by the Scottish Government, who, acting on scientific advice, had closed the stations to conserve fish stocks.
This next chapter of my long-term project involves revisiting the locations I photographed in the past and collecting stories, recollections and memories from many of the men who worked in the industry. It will be an ongoing process, one which I hope builds a complete picture and record of salmon net fishing in Scotland.
