A lone cow standing in an area of former rainforest cleared and burned to make way for agriculture on the banks of the Tapajos river, adjacent to a protected reserve. The Floresta Nacional do Tapajos (FLONA), a 6500 km2 protected reserve, was home to several small communities which lived on the banks of the Rio Tapajos river. The rainforest was cleared to make way for cattle ranching and growing soy beans for export.
