BRA_Tapajos-14.jpg

A villager grilling fish in the kitchen of his traditional reed hut in the village of Jaguarari. The Floresta Nacional do Tapajos (FLONA), a 6500 km2 protected reserve, was home to several small communities which lived on the banks of the Rio Tapajos river. The communities did not have electricity or running water and access to the villages was by unpaved dirt roads from Santarem and Highway BR163.
