A villager prepares freshly caught mixed fish from the Tapajos river for grilling. Villagers along the freshwater river lived from their catches and fruit and vegetable harvested from the rainforest. Catch numbers declined due to a severe drought in the Amazon and the effects of deforestation on river habitats as the rainforest was cleared by illegal logging and burning for cattle ranching and growing soy beans for export.
