A salmon netter from Joseph Johnston & Sons of Montrose, recovering fish from a fly net (a type of stake net) on the sands at St. Cyrus, Aberdeenshire. Fishing with fly nets here was discontinued after the 1998 season. The once-thriving Scottish salmon netting industry fell into decline in the 1970s and 1980s when the numbers of fish caught reduced due to environmental and economic reasons.
