Colin McPherson's project 'Treasured Island' part of the Document Scotland exhibition entitled 'A Contested Land' which launched at the Martin Parr Foundation, Bristol, on 16th January, 2019. McPherson's work was made in 2018-2019 on Easdale, the smallest permanently inhabited Inner Hebridean island and looks at the historical legacy of the island, once world famous for its slate mining industry. It toured to four further venues in England and Scotland throughout 2019.

The coal is supplied by boat to the island the previous day, and the islanders use carts and wheelbarrows to deliver the coal to their neighbours. Easdale island was the smallest permanently-inhabited inner Hebridean island on Scotland’s west coast, with permanent population in 2020 or around 65 people.
