Simon Paterson and his son James setting out in their boat at Strathy in the far north of Scotland to fish their bag nets for wild Atlantic salmon. Mr Paterson, a third-generation salmon fisherman whose family has worked in Sutherland for over 40 years, has been told that this season is to be his last as the government has decided not to renew his lease on the only publicly-owned fishery in Scotland. The Strathy fishery also doubles as the UK's only scientific monitoring station of the stocks of wild salmon and sea trout.
