Passenger boats moored at Fordlandia on the Tapajos river in order to take on passengers for the journey between Itaituba and Santarem. This village was one of a number on the banks of the Tapajos river which saw investment in services such as electricity and running water. Access to the village which lay in the heart of the Amazonian rainforest basin was still by unpaved dirt roads from Highway BR163.
